Union Square is a 2.6 acre (11,000 sq. m.) plaza in San Francisco. It's boundaries are Geary Street, Powell Street, Post Street, and Stockton Street. Union Square also refers to the shopping, hotel, and theater district surrounding the plaza for several blocks. The name Union Square comes from San Francisco's support of the Union army during the American Civil War.
