Overview
Sonesta Hotels, Resorts & Nile Cruises represents a collection of 26 upscale properties, designed to reflect the essence of their location and the individuality of the surrounding culture. The hotels are currently located in Boston, Miami, New Orleans, St. Maarten, Brazil, Peru, Egypt and Orlando (2007).

History
For over 60 years, Sonesta has owned, managed, designed, built and marketed hotels throughout the world. Sonesta International Hotels Corporation is an outgrowth of Sonnabend Operated Hotels, founded in the 1940s by the legendary A.M. Sonnabend, and Childs Restaurant Company, founded in the 1930s. In 1956, they merged to become Hotel Corporation of America, one of the first major hotel companies.

Leadership
Sonesta operates under the leadership of Roger P. Sonnabend, executive chairman, his daughter, Stephanie Sonnabend, CEO and President, and his nephew, Peter J. Sonnabend, CEO and vice chairman. Roger and his two brothers, Paul and Stephen, remain actively involved in Sonesta's business, as well as the third generation of Sonnabends, including Jacqueline Sonnabend, Kathy Sonnabend Rowe, Alan Sonnabend, Thomas Sonnabend and Patti Sonnabend Wagner.

Art Collection
One example of how each Sonesta Hotel creates an atmosphere of originality is the Sonesta Art Collection. This group of works consists of more than 7,000 contemporary paintings, sculptures, original prints and tapestries by both emerging and established artists such as Frank Stella, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Sol Lewitt, Jan Dibbets, Malcolm Morley and Carl Palazzolo. The works reflect the artist's vision, while illuminating some of the most significant movements in contemporary art, including Conceptual, Minimal and Pop Art.

The works of art are placed in public spaces, guestrooms and often, exterior spaces as well. Each work of art is carefully considered to create an aesthetically pleasing and meaningful statement. Many works have been specially commissioned for a particular space, in an effort to fully integrate the architecture and design of the hotel.
