Puerto Plata, located on the north coast of the Domincan Republic, is famous for amber, which can found in the surrounding hills, windsurfing, and its beautiful beaches. Cabarete, a small beach community located to the west of Puerto Plata, is the center of a fledgling sport called kiteboarding. Most of the world's kite boarding elite reside at least part of the year in Cabarete, and this is in no small part due to the reliable trade winds that blow steadily from April to late June. The Dominican Republic, one of the oldest European settlements in the Western Hemisphere, is also a safe and intriguing place to visit, offering many things to do, from hiking, sailing and scuba diving, to visiting art collections and historical sites. The Dominican Republic is renowned for its food culture as well. In short, anything and everything can be found here in the area around Puerto Plata and Cabarete.

Puerto Plata has benefited from more than two decades of steady and carefully planned growth, and for visitors this means there is a wide variety of accommodations to choose from. Real estate in the Dominican Republic and Dominican Republic condos are quite good and are worth investigating as a place to stay.
