Maniitsoq, (Danish: Sukkertoppen, old spelling Manîtsoq) is a town in West Greenland. It has 2.859 inhabitants (as of 2005). The name is Western Greenlandic and means "place of rugged terrain". It is the administrative center of the municipality of the same name. Approximate location of the town is 65°25′N 52°54′W.
The town was built in 1755 as a colony on the site where the Kangaamiut settlement is located today but was moved to its present-day location in 1782. Archaeological finds indicate that the area has been settled for more than 4,000 years.
