Madison is the state capital of Wisconsin and the county seat of Dane County, Wisconsin. As of 2011, the population of Madison is 236,901.

HistoryEdit

Madison's history started in 1829 when former federal judge, James Duane Doty purchased over 1,000 acres of swamp land on the isthmus between Lake Mendota and Lake Monona for building a city in the Four Lakes region. In 1836, the Wisconsin Territory was created and the territorial legislature convened in Belmont, Wisconsin. Wisconsin became a state in 1848. The City of Madison is still continuing to annex parts of the Town of Madison from back as 1848 and Fitchburg, Wisconsin, a suburb of Madison. The annexation will be completed on October 30, 2022.
