Lucknow is the capital city of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The city has a population of 2.5 million (2006), and the population represents ethnic and religious diversity, which mingle into a blend to present a special culture that is truly Lucknowi (of Lucknow). Lucknow, sometimes described as the golden city of the east, is famed for its particular blend of sophisticated culture, courtesy and warmth of its people. In the Indian society, this has earned its own niche and is known as Lakhnawi Tehzeeb, the elegance and candour of Lucknow. It is not only the culture of the people, but also the cultural heritage of a bygone age and the enchanting monuments in and around the city, which remains ingrained in the memory lines of a visitor.
Lucknow is famous for its special varieties of mangoes available during the summer months. In case, you find yourself other than during the sultry summers, you should not feel daunted at all. The dress material known as Chikan, a fine cotton cloth shall surely attract your attention.
