The Pink City
Edit
Jaipur has earned a euphemis, the Pink City. It was painted pink and all the legendary structures of the city continues to bear the pink colour. There are many stories about the city getting the pink colour. According to one such story, when some diplomats of the Prince of Wales (of the Great Britain) had arrived long back in the city the local people called them pink-faced. Perhaps this was not liked by the diplomats or the then rulers of Jaipur. So they floated a story - people called the diplomats pink-faced in reference as Hanuman, a god of the Hindus, is pink-faced. Then they painted the entire city in pink colour. However, there is another more credible story. A contractor did not get any colour other than the pink one and so the city was painted pink. There are many other similar stories about the city acquiring its pink colour. The fact remains that in the culture of city, pink colour is associated with hospitality.
Be wary
Edit
Jaipur is a preferred tourist destination of India and every year many domestic and international tourists visit Jaipur. However, you should be wary of strangers and self-proclaimed guides. You should not accept tea, or any other drinks and eatables from strangers. You may be duped. You should also avoid to go to secluded places along with strangers. Some reports have indicated that smugglers have tried to misguide the tourists to carry articles out of of the city. In fact, Jaipur is really a nice place provided you exercise a little caution during your stay in Jaipur and during trips outside the city.
