Lucknow is the capital city of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The city has a population of 2.5 million (2006), and the population represents ethnic and religious diversity, which mingle into a blend to present a special culture that is truly Lucknowi (of Lucknow). Lucknow, sometimes described as the golden city of the east, is famed for its particular blend of sophisticated culture, courtesy and warmth of its people.
