Aswan, with the present population of around 200,000, is an ancient Egyptian city, located in the southern region of the Egypt. Interestingly in some localities like the Nubian settlements, some houses may not have roofs for all the rooms! The city stands on the east bank of the River Nile - the Nile is about 3,000 yards wide at above Aswan. From here, from this frontier Egyptian town of Aswan, the Nile smoothly flows without any bar for around 750 miles to the northern fringes of Egypt. The voyage from Aswan to Alexandria by boat takes about 21 to 28 days depending on the weather. Aswan is around 680 km (425 miles) south of Cairo, and located below the Aswan Dam and the Lake Nasser. The city has an old era charm, environment is rather quite compared to the places like Cairo, and if you want a relaxed destination, Aswan is for you.
